A Message from President Joe Hemingway

Hello Deanna,

I know things are bad there and you are extremely busy, hopefully, you are ok. I am the President of the Rotary Club of Newtown CT. I know it’s early, but we know firsthand how people want to reach out and help, but some people like to do it through a local well-known organization. If you could let me know as soon as you are able to what is the best way we can help you to help those of your community most in need, we want to make sure that the most urgent needs are met, we will stand by, but we are willing to help you any way we can

Joe Hemingway
President, Rotary Club of Newtown Connecticut

A Reply from President Rick Olsen

Dear Joe,

Thank you for your support and compassion during this difficult time.  So many people—men, women, and children—have been displaced and frightened by the tragic and unprecedented events of “Hurricane Harvey.”  In the midst of this crisis, the Rotary Club of Houston has received numerous offers of assistance from Rotary Clubs across the United States and the World.  I have never been so proud to be a Rotarian—“Service Above Self.”

Recently, I was informed by District Governor Bill Palko that Rotary International President-Elect Barry Rassin and Past Rotary International Directors Greg Podd and Bob Stuart have established the “Gulf Coast Disaster Relief Fund” (Fund #608) via the Rotary Foundation. This fund will benefit the three Rotary Districts (5890-Houston, 5910-Galveston, and 5930-Corpus Christi) that have been devastated by the floods throughout Southeast Texas.  All Rotary Districts, Clubs, Foundations, and members are encouraged to donate to this fund.  For additional information regarding the “Gulf Coast Disaster Relief Fund” go to: https://www.rotary.org/en/rotary-districts-collect-emergency-funds-hurrican-harvey-victims

Please express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to every member of the Rotary Club of Newtown Connecticut.   Together—we are “Rotary Strong!”

Yours in Rotary Service,

Rick Olsen, President 2017-2018
Rotary Club of Houston
